Big Game Snow Revelations

SNOW REVELATIONS

SHOT Show is looming, but with a pile of fresh snow hitting the ground it was a great time to check out some hidey holes and see how the big bulls were wintering before the big show. The fresh snow didn’t disappoint. It’s been an open winter so far and the bucks, and bulls are scattered in some winter locations that are unexpected. That’s why the snow backdrop was helpful in finding some of these fugitives. I teamed up my 20/20-contact-lens-vision with my Nikon EDG spotting scope and even clicked a few images of zoomed-in bulls. This is the best way to scout tired bucks and bulls … from a distance. Human disturbances, predators and even paranoia cause big game to bounce around all winter so the fewer disturbances the better.

As much as I like renewing friendships at SHOT Show and seeing all the great new gear, it’s tough to leave Wyoming. Even the time on the tractor pushing snow this weekend is more appealing than a visit to the big city. See you in Vegas! Stay warm with your winter scouting with great deals through Jan. 20 at Cabela’s. Hornady, CVA, Mossy Oak
